How to Establish Serious Relationship after the First Date | Healthy ...

When that first date is a success, it is only natural to think about the future. But if you envision yourself getting serious, you may find yourself wondering how to take that new relationship to a whole new level. Lots of potential pitfalls can develop when you first start dating somebody. Building a successful relationship requires a commitment to taking it slow and getting to know the other person while laying the groundwork for a healthy future with open, honest communication.

One of the important aspects in a relationship is to build your friendship. This concept is also based on relationship expert and marriage counselor. The most successful and enduring relationships are built on solid friendships. Rather than focusing solely on the romantic aspect of your relationship, take the time to build a close friendship. Find activities you both enjoy, and spend plenty of casual time in each other?s company. You may want to consider the saying that, ?When the spark was gone, your friendship will help to restore your love?.

Move forward a little bit at a time. You may be hearing wedding bells after that first date, but if you really want a future with this person, you need to keep your expectations in check. Wanting too much too soon can put a lot of pressure on a fledgling relationship. Instead of always focusing on the future, take the time to get to know this person, and work on keeping your relationship grounded in the present moment. Sometimes it is easier said than done when it comes to taking a relationship slow. However, if you still care to this person you will do things in God?s time and when both of you are ready emotionally, financially, and physically.

Speak the truth to your new partner. The only way to build a healthy relationship is by being honest. Lies, even little white lies that seem harmless at the time, may get you through an awkward moment or two early in your relationship, but they are not a good way to build an intimate connection with someone.

Talk about yourself in moderation. Although you may feel tempted to let it all hang out in the beginning, offering too much intimate information too soon can overwhelm a new relationship. Rather than over sharing, try revealing a little information at a time to keep your potential mate curious and wanting more. As your relationship progress that is the right time to slowly telling your partner about yourself, so that interesting part on your relationship will never be lost.

If you think he/she is the one for you, commit to that person. It is difficult to create a meaningful relationship with someone if you do not commit to her. Committing early in the dating process can make it possible for you to lay the foundation of a true and lasting love. Without commitment, there may be circumstances that your love for each other will be changed.
